Building Images...

"Architecture is one part science, one part
craft and two parts art."
David Rutten

My affinity to architecture seems to be drawn to the "two parts art" part. Worn and weathered by time, the elements and man...the patina of an aged building becomes an integral part of what sustains my inspiration. Mortar, brick, wood, glass become in every respect – surface. The varying planes of these structures provide shadows, highlights and compositional depth. By surveying and recording these finds I hope to reinforce a more insightful, visual foundation.

Play is the only way the highest intelligence of

humankind can unfold.

Joseph Chilton Pearce

There are times when playing brings us to a place where we never intended to go. Some time ago I had shot details images of a beautiful stone wall. The textures, tone and color values really intrigued me. But my original idea didn't pan out the way I had intended. Just for fun I recently pulled out some of those images and decided to...play. The outcome for me was quite fun. It brought me back to a childhood memory of my grandfather amusing me with an old kaleidoscope while the adults watched their precious Yankees on TV.

Post No Bills

“The question is not what you look at, but what you see.”

Henry David Thoreau

At one time or another we find a need to be noticed... through the physical form of an announcement, a statement or proclamation, a plea or petition. In many cases an advertisement or promotion needs to be announced in postings of handmade cardboard notes, fliers and signs. In doing so we leave behind a historical record of that action in the form of weathered and worn bits of paper, rusting nails, staples and the remains of a gnarled and rutted substrate... telephone poles.

A peripheral glance, a sighting of my first, inspired the idea that allowed me a New Years Day full of exploration and visual entertainment.

Take joy in everything you see and do. Happy New Year!

"Art is the path of the creator to his work."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Art...is my inspiration whether created or found. I am always looking, searching for stimulating ways of expressing my passion for art. Immersed in the creative process one can escape into a place of pure exhilaration. And in finding that place I have captured at least fifty or more unique abstract compositions. Here are just a few for you to reflect on and enjoy.
